Le Chéile Lighting Specialists, acting on behalf of Cork County Council as the Lead Authority on the Public Lighting Energy Efficiency Project, South West Region (PLEEP-SW), we will be carrying out public lighting works at a number of locations across Cork County.
Works commencing: 24th March 2023 in the Municipal District Bandon-Kinsale and will progress through the Municipal District of Macroom and West Cork in Quarter two and three.
The project supported by the Road Management Office (RMO) in conjunction with various Local Authorities across Ireland, will see a number of regions countrywide retrofitted in stages with energy efficient LED street lights over the next three years as part of the government’s drive to assist Local Authorities in reaching their energy efficiency targets by 2030.
The South West Region will see over 77,000 public street lights retrofitted across counties Cork, Clare, Limerick, Kerry and Waterford over the next 30 months as the first stage of the project. Cork County Council is the lead Local Authority for South West Region.
Our works in the most part will present little or no disruption to the public or businesses within your area, and your power will not be interrupted. Some deployment of temporary traffic management may be required in areas of high traffic volume or narrow roads to facilitate safe access to streetlights for work crews. In rare instances, access to private premises or businesses may be affected where civil (excavation) works are necessary.

With the collaboration of the project partners and stakeholders, 2022 saw the completion of Surveying works across four Municipal Districts (Bandon-Kinsale, Carrigaline, Cobh and Macroom) with surveying also practically complete in three further Municipal Districts (Kanturk-Mallow, East Cork and West Cork). Surveying progress in January 2023 saw the completion of County Cork, and surveying commencing in County Kerry and County Waterford The surveying work provides the necessary information to facilitate the detailed design works which have progressed in parallel. The project supply chain will see lanterns delivered in April 2023 to allow the commencement of the installation works in the first Municipal Districts.
The coordination and delivery of this complex critical infrastructure project for the Munster region would not be possible but for the continued support of the Local Authorities, and critical stakeholders such as ESB, and the continued cooperation of the general public. Le Chéile wishes everyone involved in the project a happy and successful New Year.

Le Chéile Lighting Specialists, acting on behalf of Cork County Council as the Lead Authority on the Public Lighting Energy Efficiency Project, South West Region (PLEEP-SW), is currently carrying out surveying of the public lighting network in your area.
Our works in the most part will present little or no disruption to you, the public or businesses within your area, and your electric supply will not be interrupted at any stage during the works.
To facilitate the works, we will require access to public lighting column doors, public lights located on the lighting columns, and we may require the cutting back of tree limbs or hedges that hinder our access. We, therefore, advise you that we will need to trim your hedge and/or some tree limbs, in the immediate proximity of the public lighting asset(s) on or near your property in the near future to enable the retrofitting of the current public light(s) to an energy saving LED public light.
Some deployment of temporary traffic management may be required in areas of high traffic volume or narrow roads to facilitate safe access to public lights for work crews.
